Ajax upset Juventus to qualify to the Champions League semifinals

Ajax continued with their Cinderella story as they eliminated the Italian giants Juventus in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and booking their ticket to their semifinals. Juventus star forward Cristiano Ronaldo was the first to score in the 28th minutes but the celebration was short lived as Donny Van de Beek equalized on the 34th minute for Ajax. It was the 19-year-old Ajax forward Matthijs de Ligt goal at the 67th minutes that sealed the fate of the Dutch football club.

Ajax which was considered as the underdogs in the UEFA Champions league surprised many as they eliminated the former champions Real Madrid from the completion as they beat them 4-1 at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The last time Ajax was in the Champions League semifinals, their goalscorer Matthijs de Ligt was not yet born. This spectacular performance portrayed by the young team is a clear indication that they can no longer be underestimated in the champions league.

This Dutch team joins Barcelona who had a walk in the park as they beat Manchester United 3-0. Messi was playing at his best as he scored two goals in the 16th and 20th minutes, Philippe Coutinho scored a screamer goal in the 61st minutes to enable Barcelona to advance to the semifinals with 4-0 aggregates.
