Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-America to be elected in the U.S house for representatives is the leading Democrats in the fundraising with $1 Million despite her controversies. She has been able to come on top after the first quarter 2020 fundraising report despite the anti-Semitic controversies she has faced during her first three months in office.
Omar has been under attack over the comments she made during the small donor rally where she said “some people did something” in regards to the 9/11 attack as she was addressing anti-Muslim discrimination.
Lots of donors have shown lots of support to the Minnesota Democrat by helping her raise more than $830,000 in the first quarter according to the federal election commission report released on Monday. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez followed Omar closely being able to fundraise $725000 while Rashida Tlaib D-Maisch was able to raise $316,000 less than half of Omar fundraising.
In the three months, she has been in office; Omar has had lots of controversies including an exchange of words with the current president Donald Trump. She has accused the United States Politicians of being paid to support Israel; she later ignited the same conversation by accusing Israel supporters of pushing the United States politician for them to declare allegiance with Israel.
“I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” Omar said. “I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA, of fossil fuel industries, or big pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying movement that is influencing policy?”
